Perennial Daisy Varieties
Old-fashioned favorites from the garden, daisies are simple flowers recognized by slim petals bordering a notable center. Although the most comfortable daisies are white with yellow centers, daisies are also available with brightly-colored petals and centers of gold, brown or green. Although many daisies are annuals that bloom for just a single season, several perennial varieties return for a display of color year after year.
Marguerite Daisy
Marguerite daisies (Argyranthemum frutescens), also called oxeye daisies, are frequently called wild daisies due to their propensity to reseed easily, often crowding out less competitive perennials. Masses of small, long-lasting blooms appear on sturdy, 1- to 3-foot stems from late spring or early summer. The flowers, in colors of white, purple or yellow with golden centers, develop above bright green or bluish-green leaf. Margeurite daisies, perennial in USDA zones 3 through 9, perform well in coastal climates.
Shasta Daisy
Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum x superbum) is a conventional daisy with white petals and bright yellow centers. The flowers, which bloom in late spring and typically last until autumn, appear on top of sturdy stems measuring 10 inches to 3 feet, depending on the number. Although the most comfortable Shasta daisies are single blooms, they’re also available in dual and shaggy forms. Shasta daisies are acceptable for growing in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Globe Daisy
Globe daisy (Globularia) is also just a low-growing, mounding plant that works particularly well in rock gardens. Height of the plant at maturity is just about 4 to 8 inches. The small, round, fluffy bloomsthat appear in late spring and early summer, are available in pink, white, or bluish-lavender with contrasting yellow centers. Montauk Daisy
Also called Nippon daisy, Montauk daisy (Nipponanthemum nipponicum) is a showy autumn bloomer and among the last perennials to bloom in the garden. The shrubby plant, which reaches heights of two feet, displays timeless white flowers with green centers. The leaves are shiny and bright green. Montauk daisy is acceptable for planting as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 9.
